REX Team,
The response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has reached a new level of urgency. By now most of you have heard that Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has issued a ‘stay at home’ order across Illinois starting this weekend through April 7th.
While it may seem drastic, I am encouraged by this aggressive measure that may help shorten the duration of the outbreak, and also avoid overwhelming our healthcare system. This protocol is similar to what is in place in Italy and much of Europe; however, those countries did not get ahead of their COVID-19 outbreaks, and their medical systems have gone beyond capacity as they address the exponential rise of individuals who are getting sick as a result of exposure to the virus. In addition to the sick, Italy and Europe are suffering severe losses of life as a result of COVID-19. The goal of the lockdown here in Chicago is to get ahead of the numbers being faced in other countries. It’s the right step to protect our family, friends, and neighbors here in Chicago.
With that said, I understand you all have questions about what this means for you and your role at REX.
- Project Site Work: The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers announced that the Governor’s Stay at Home order excludes, for the time being, construction sites. REX electricians, general superintendents, and other project site staff will continue to support our customers at these locations as long as the project sites remain open and safe to perform work. Your safety remains our top priority, and our prior guidance regarding health and hygiene procedures, staying home when sick, and self-quarantining when appropriate still stands.
- Office Staff: All PRU II team members should continue to work from home until further notice. Depending on your role, you may need to perform periodic office or job site visits, walk-throughs or other essential tasks as directed by supervisors. Warehouse employees will continue their normal operation.
We continue to monitor recommendations from the WHO, CDC, and legislators so we remain up to date on the latest information and safety protocols. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, or your supervisor, with questions or concerns.
