By this time of year, everyone is
looking forward to spring and new
starts. We thought this would be the
perfect opportunity to review some
procedures on what we consider
"specialty" tools. Some examples of
these tools on the "A" side consist of
881 bender, cyclone and/or 555 bend-
ers, cable tuggers; battery operated
high press, battery cable cutter, meg-
gers. On the "C" side it could be the
Fluke testers, fiber heads and accesso-
ries, and the video termination kits and
anything else that may not be consid-
ered a day to day tool. The warehouse
needs as much lead time as possible to
acquire these tools. With this being
said, it is important to plan as far in
advance as necessary to insure that
these tools will be available for the
timeframe that they will be needed. It
is also just as important to use these
tools efficiently, and return them as
soon as you're done using them, so
they will be available timely for the
next project they have been requested
for. Following these guidelines will
insure that the tools will be available
when needed and will help keep your
job and your co-workers job on track.
        On another note, as previously
touched upon at the Foreman's meet-
ing, we are in the process of instituting
the use of prefabricated material for
the job site. We have set-up a prefab
shop in Addison and it is open for busi-
ness. Some of the items that we are
currently focusing on for rough in are:
pre-made wall boxes, pre-cut threaded
rod and unistrut for racks, pre-made
seal tight whips, threaded heavy wall
nipples, and anything that requires as-
sembly time on the job (items that in-
volve repetitive or assembly line type
of production will greatly benefit from
the prefab shop). The prefab shop also
has a cyclone and an 881 bender for
any type of bends that you may need.
This is a great tool to use when you do
not require the use of an onsite bender
or when one is not readily available.
Please contact Tom Wonsil to order
any prefab items you need for your
job. You should review these orders
with your Superintendent before plac-
ing your order. On the technology side
larger jobs with a lot of material to be
sorted out and organized can be done
in the shop, these requests can be di-
rected to Steve Watt. In the near fu-
ture, there will be a simple order re-
quest form available to assist you on
your ordering needs. Please keep in
mind that these prefab items are being
made by Union Electricians in our
warehouse. Although this is a change
in the way we currently do things, this
change is necessary and will ensure our
competitive edge and keep us at the
top of the Electrical Industry. As al-
ways, we are open to any suggestions
that you may have regarding these new
procedures. Contact your Superinten-
dent with any questions or help that
you may need.
Have a happy and safe spring season!!!!
